Town of Tatum-James G. Tatum arrived in the Tatum area sometime in August 1909. He and a friend from Ranger Lake built a combination house and store located at the intersection of present-day Hwy 380 and Hwy 206. He applied for a post office in December 1909. Tatum's population is approximately 683.
High ancient sea ledges, deep rocky canyons, flowering cactus and desert wildlife - treasures above the ground in the Chihuahuan Desert. Hidden beneath the surface are more than 119 known caves - all formed when sulfuric acid dissolved the surrounding limestone leaving behind caverns of all sizes.
Eunice is a hotbed of traditional Cajun and Creole culture and Cajun and Zydeco music, and the community pays enormous tribute to it. The Liberty Theatre constructed in 1924 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places, hosts "Rendez-Vous des Cajuns", an internationally known performance that features Cajun and Zydeco music and humorists.

The Lovington Fire Department was officially established on April 7th, 1931 as a volunteer department. On July 1st, 1972, the City of Lovington Fire Department assumed ambulance responsibilities. In 1985, the fire department made the transition to a full time paid department and absorbed the volunteers as part time employees in 1992. Today, the Lovington Fire Department employs twenty-one full time personnel.
