How We Came To Be

Nor-Lea Hospital District was developed in 1980 after about six years of hard work and determination of the people of northern Lea County. Formerly Lea County General Hospital, owned by the county, it was closed by the county in 1972. The Lovington Chamber of Commerce initially was fundamental in joining together local businesses and many dedicated residents to form Nor-Lea Health, Inc. in 1974. Fundraising activities and numerous trips to Santa Fe finally proved successful, as legislators formed the hospital district and the hospital was re-opened.
